Best tank yet for my Saturn SL2!!!!! 33.4 for a SL2 with a auto trans!!

Just put on two new tires to replace the old cupped snows that were on there yesterday [sounded like a dozer running down the road!!] so hoping I can hit 35 next tank!!

Ya, I have heard the Saturns like it. Im thinking of just cutting a few holes in the duct that goes over the rad infront of the exoust. Figure that will pick up warm air.

I have also found there are three places on my drive to work where I can nutrul coust for a wile!! One on the highway, that if I hit it at 65mph I only drop 5mph by the bottom and then I have to slow for my exit, and another streach of road thats 45mph and I GAIN speed, and if the lights are right, I can go over a mile!!!! And last I go inot a tech park, that once I get up to 30mph[the limit] I can coast the rest of the way, into the parking lot, and to a parking space!! That HAS to help some!!!

You should try to determine the timing of those lights so you can adjust your speed and always hit green lights.

If they're timed... I remember years ago in my hometown I was talking with one of the county supervisors, and he was talking about widening route 610 (again) 30 years ago it was a 2 lane country road, and now its grown to 8 lanes + turn lanes, and lights every 100 yards. I asked why not synchronize the lights, then maybe we won't need to add extra lanes again. He said it was "in the works, but we need to widen the road first"...

The problem is the traffic. I think they are triggerd by cars weighting. If its a light traffic morning its cake, heavy traffic, and your done!!

AFAIK, common traffic lights are triggered by metal detectors and limited by a schedule; the larger road defaults to green and the cross roads have certain time slots available if a vehicle triggers it. Then there's bicycles and scooters that don't have enough steel to trip the detector... :(

The problem in my hometown was that there were traffic lights every 100 yards on a major road, and they weren't networked togeather so you could regulate the flow of traffic smoothly. You would end up with situations where your light turned green, but you couldn't go because the next light was red, and it was backed up to your light. So idiotic. They wanted to spend another 2 years, and lord knows how much money to add another lane, and deal with construction traffic, and lane closures, when they could upgrade the lights and network them togeather for less money, less time, and less no impact on traffic flow (Until it went "live" where it would increase the flow).

That will work a little. I had a SC-2 that had a high of 42MPG (mine was a 5 speed). What I did was cut that tube going over the radiator and using flex tubing extended it to the header (I replaced the exhaust manifold with the tube header from a '92).

If I remember correctly, yours has the open grill front bumper. Blocking that will help on the highway.

I disagree that your cutting holes in the resonator will help. Sure your intake temps will rise 10-20*F, but that's not enough to see any significant MPG increase tank-to-tank.

Engineer it any way you want, but you want a real HAI for a Saturn... mine went from 33mpg highway max to 46mpg highway. Never used P&G or EOC. Just mild drafting and no cruise control, HAI and SG-II. You want the SG viewing *f IA to monitor your HAI temps, I've seen that above 150*F is best, keeping it between 170-180 is amazing for MPG but the car will feel sluggish. I got an additional IAT sensor from a junkyard and just cut/solder in the new one to help extend the wires, then drill/tap the TOP of the air cleaner box so your sensor will read actual temp entering your engine, rather than reading under the filter where you'll be getting a mix of fresh and warm air.

Also, if you've owned your Saturn long, you probably know about the ECTS, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. The stock ones are made from some type of plastic, they're garbage; inaccurate and WILL fail and leak everywhere eventually. Get a brass tipped one and you'll be good to go.

So what advantege does moving the IAT make???

your car reads actual intake temps, and adds fuel accordingly (less fuel is added for higher reading intake temps)

OH OK. I will start there, and see what happands. I want to one change at a time, so I will wait till next tank, and then do it.

I did my best to drive for max MPG, and I got 3 mpg LESS then last tank!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF???????????

I've sometimes had that result while trying too hard. :(

Hmm, same here... I just can't drive cars to get good mpg...
The trucks at work is easy, but not my little car...

your last tank was a short fill up. only about half what you usually do. it may have been a difference of the pumps or something. I noticed that this fill up seems to be inline with the rest of yours.

it isn't a definite but it is a possibility. I was going to suggest a scangauge but noticed that you have a '94.

OK, well I changed my style a little. Im giving a little more throttle at start ups. Figure I will get to cruze speed faster. The rest I am keeping the same.

I also noticed I am not costing as well, so I am going to check if there is a issue somewere, or if I have a tire going soft.

I realy want to hit 35mpg and get my avg over 30!!!

OK so far I seem to be doing a lot better!!!

Went about 20 miles more on a half tank then normal, so looking good!!!
