Uhaul trailer speeds

They say a maximum of 45mph. Are they serious? I'm gonna be needing one for a 800 mile move and that's gonna royally suck at 45. My mileage would be pretty sweet tho...

I think its mostly to cover their butts. If you get in an accident at over 45 MPH you can't blame it on the trailer.

yup, my dad drove 1000 some miles towing one trying to go 65. i say trying cuz the aerostar van going up any slight grade would bog down bad towing that full trailer.

it is for thier butts.

if youve never towed a trailer especially a loaded one, brake way early and whatever you do do not swerve for any reason. also dont be one of those dumb aholes that pull out in front of you and apparently forget they have a trailer as you almost cream it...

I hate those jerks... They're also the ones that cut you off in the rain while you're driving a 28 year old car without antilock brakes.

Also take your turns wide, look further ahead than you normally do, be aware of the effect of tongue weight on your vehicle, be aware of trailer sway and what you can do about it, etc...the list goes on forever, those are what I remember off the top of my head. Do it enough and it all becomes second-nature.

I didn't even think about the wider turns thing.

Yeah, I've decided that this isn't the town for me. As much as I'd like it to be, it isn't. Back to the birthplace of Pace picante sauce.

well depending on the trailer most turns you may not have to swing wide. i hate those idiots that have the dinky trailers that go so wide a car could fit between the trailer and the curb...

so just go slow and watch it in your mirrors.

It's only their 5x8 trailer. It's not the 6x12 or anything. I'm getting rid of some furniture and my XBR400 so I won't have a 40" CRT HDTV I have to make room for. I love the picture, it's a breathtakingly beautiful tv to watch (makes LCD tvs look like garbage) but I don't want to haul a 400# tv with me.

CRT HDTV's are hard to come by. If you were anywhere near me I'd offer to give it a good home... ;)

Yup, that is the reason for sure. They just don't want to get sued.

You should reconsider and take that tv with you and your clothes and just wrap it up in blankets.

Have a safe trip.
