ScanGuageII Fuel Adjustment Factor?

I am enjoying my brand new SGII and recently made my first complete fill up after installing it. Since I would like to gain the most benefit for using the gauge, I am turning here for your collective advice. I was adjusting the gauge for the amount of gallons pumped into the tank and noticed the adjustment factor percentage increasing. Lacking any further information I reset the adjustment factor to 0% (and reset the rest of the parameters for my vehicle). With all that said, I'd like to know what the purpose of the adjustment factor is and how does it work? My engine is a GMC 4.3L V6 if has any bearing on setting the adjustment factor. And, as always, thanks in advance for the asssistance.

The adjustment factor exists to adjust the SG's measurement of fuel used. It is tied to the fill amount.

Let's say for example that the SG said you put in 20 gallons but you really put in 22 gallons. Then, you entered 22 as the amount you put in; the adjustment factor would have gone to 10%. Then, hopefully, during the next fill you won't have to adjust it at all.

The whole reason for you to enter the amount of gallons pumped is for the SG to calculate the adjustment factor. When it can more accurately know how much gas you used, it can more accurately calculate your fuel economy.

Thanks

Thanks for the explanation. I'll run with this tank and follow your intructions next time I fill up. Just curious. After my first fill up, the factor percentage went very high. Any thoughts?

The first time its just getting used to your vehicle. Think nothing of it. After 2 or 3 fillups you should be within 1/2 gallon of what your SG thinks you've used.

Well make sure you filled the tank the same and set the engine size properly. I am waiting for my first new tank after the software upgrade but it looks about 9-10 % again like it was since this tank is showing a MUCH HIGHER MPG than I usually get. My old setting was about 9.1% more fuel used than it measured even though it "burned" while injectors were off during engine braking injector cut off.
