Ideas for making my jeep more fuel efficient?

It's a 2000 jeep cherokee sport and it supposedly gets a combined 17 mpg and I'd like to get that as high as possible. I'm going to remove the roof rack and I'm considering getting full moon hubcaps..will that make a significant difference? And any other suggestions?

Mods are nice, but most importantly - learn to drive with economy in mind. Driving technique can trump nearly any mod, and is pretty much free.

As far as mods go though, look into a grille block, and maybe a hot air intake. HAI works on some vehicles, and not on others. DOn't know about the Jeeps if it works or not.

If you can stand to lose the 4WD, there may be savings in physically removing as much of the system as possible. Depends what kind of drivetrain it has.

There isn't a lot you can do to a jeep while leaving it a jeep. the point of a functional jeep is it's lack of economy. 4wd, ground clearance, big knobby tires, big torqey engine.

mods are the same stuff that goes for any car:
lower it (good luck finding lowering kits for a jeep :-p)
exhaust (headers, cats, pipes. loud does not equal good)
inflate tires, as well as if you need new ones, tallest tires you can get
grill block
