Hard to beat continuous combustion for low emissions!

My next DD is going to be a '60-'63 Ford Falcon! 25mpg with none of the modern electronics, very little plastic, and no optional stuff to break. Plus, because the later Mustang shared a platform with Falcons, I have some experience with working on them and parts will be in good supply. Lastly, it's neither cookie cutter nor ugly (subjectively, of course), and modern cars all seem to be one or the other.

My next car:

2001/2002 Saturn SC1 5sp

Look out 50mpg, here I come!

sweet falcon.

i hope to find and AMC car of some sort. the Spirit looks interesting or the eagle hatchback is sweet. or any of the 60-70's AMC's

i'm WAY behind the curve. my next car will be hybrid, but ten years from now. ten years after, maybe a plug-in hybrid or hopefully a full blown e car.

I'll have at least 4 or 5 years before I need to think about my next car but it will either be the Aptera plug in hybrid or a Chevy Cruz if it gets anywhere near the mpg people are thinking it will get (+10 mpg over Cobalt XFE).

The choice will depend mostly on if my wife and I only have 1 kid or multiple and cost of the cars.

I'm with you on that one. I've heard some of the details can be a little chintzy (dash panels, etc.) but that the cars themselves are almost indestructible. It's also got a feature on the motors I'd love to have on the Falcons; detachable intakes. Ford chose to cast them integrally on their 144/170/200 inlines. I think a 2x1 intake would actually help out because the outer runners are so much longer than the middle ones that you can never really get the carb tuned as precisely as you'd like. And aluminum's lighter...

yea, well as with most cars from back then if its not hidden away in a garage its gonna have a cracked dash and sun rot problems...

oddly enough with GM cars anyways the interior plastics (door pannels, center console, etc) the color makes a difference. the red pannels seem to rot the fastest/worst but all the brown (dark brown) pannels are near mint that ive seen...
