Renting textbooks online

In the past I've shopped the heck out of my textbooks. I'd find them on eBay, half.com, or whatever site was selling that particular book the cheapest. Then I'd plan to sell it on eBay when I'm done...but I never do.

That is, until recently when I discovered chegg.com. I rent the book, they ship it to me. If the class gets canceled I send back the book using a prepaid label they provide and they refund everything, including shipping. If I keep the book for the semester, when I'm done I send it back with a prepaid label they provide. Piece of cake! No hassle and it's way cheaper than forgetting to sell my books when I'm done.

I figured there's probably some others here who might be able to use it.

what do they charge?

I know text books are really expensive. even the used ones. we found out that if you buy a used text book and turn it back into the store (sell it back) it brings less than if you had bought it new.

we started peeling off the used stickers and cleaning it up some. they started stamping the first couple of inside pages so you couldn't get it off.

there was the occasional insidence too where they stopped using the book and you were stuck with it.

It depends on what the book is.

I have kept all my engineering books and but tossed other useless books into the trash.

Conceptual Integrated Science by Hewitt, Paul G., Suchocki, John, Lyons, Suzanne, Suchocki, John A., Yeh, Jennifer
Rental Price $29.97
List price: $131.13

Cheapest eBay/half.com/web price I could find was about $50, and I didn't bother checking if that was the correct edition or not. I could do better if I buy the $50 one and sell it when done, but probably not much better.

I always kept my college textbooks in with all my notebooks. I've only used four of them since graduating, though.
