Yamaha Seca II

Picked up this one for less than $500 from craigslist.. needs tires, front fairing is missing mounting bolts, but engine is sound..

I replaced the broken front brake lever this evening.. rode it around the neighborhood for a bit.. took off the front fairiings to investigate the buzzing noise, discovered that I'm missing a piece of plastic between the windshield and speedo instrument.. I'll need some weather strip foam to seal up the gap.. hopefully eliminate the buzzing noise.

Not bad! I love a good budget find...almost had the opportunity some years back to pick up a GPz550 for $450 and I regretted not doing it. I think you'll have some fun with this one!

I rode out to see the Seca within 2 hrs. of the add being posted, I had $500 cash with me, asking price was $750. I pointed out it needs tires, broken front brake lever, sign of rust in tank, worn suspension, missing fasteners on the front fairing, etc.. and the kid selling the bike actually felt bad about neglecting the bike.. but since he already got his GSXR'whatnot, he just wanted cash in his pocket..

Kid told me others have called to see the bike but couldn't make it out to see the bike until the weekend.. sometimes we get better deals when act fast, I wouldn't feel bad walk away if he didn't accept my offer though.

Dude, you stole that bike from him! How many miles are on it?

Bad news about the buzzing. Thats just what these seca ii's do... Once you isolate and resolved one rattle or vibration in the faring, another one pops up. Foam loses its firmness quickly, try and find some rubbery tape called bishops tape. It fits in really tight places or you can layer it up for the larger gaps. My Seca lives outdoors and the bishops tape will last about 9 months before I have to do any maintenance on it.

I put a Supertrappe full system to replace the original rusty exhaust, put about 600 mi. on it now has little over 22k. I check the valve clearance, there are still pretty spot on, bike starts everytime, never miss a beat.
