An interesting news story from my neck of the woo...er, desert...

It's one thing to have CCD cameras on the street (especially in known areas), since it's arguable you don't have an expectation of privacy in a public place, but in your own backyard? Good luck with that one.

It almost sounds like an unemployed private pilot making a pitch for a job (can't blame him for trying).
I wonder how much it will cost per hour? I would like the police to make a list of all of the crimes committed last year and show exactly how this technology would have helped them. |
The people who are worried about being seen naked in their backyards must never have heard of satellite photos and Google Earth.

Last night I watched a TV show (fiction) where a mayor of a town put in a law banning red meat from that town. I guess truth really is stranger than fiction. |
IIRC, he is working with Dick Rutan, the original aircraft hypermiler, the guy who flew around the world non-stop on one tank of gas back in '86, brother of Burt Rutan...Scaled Composites, Spaceship One (X-prize winner, etc). Probably not out of work.
Cost? Probably WAAAAYYY too much! Effective? I have read that London has so many cameras that the average person is photographed about 300 times a day. I have also heard that it has made little impact on actual crime. Quote:

Boo hiss. Stay out of my life and my business.

Wow!
You'd think something like that would be a way for combat troops to be able to keep track of each other and know where the bad guys are too. Shoot. They might even be able to patrol the border with something like that. |
