I set up my car as a new vehicle in the Garage to track its mileage since I had the lean burn engine installed. In the 4 tanks I have entered so far, its been averaging 78mpg. This is pretty good for an 18 year old non-diesel, non-hybrid doing most of its driving on the highway at normal highway speeds and about 10mpg above its average with the previous engine. So far, I have had it up to 80mph with it remaining in lean burn. I'm still looking for a safe, flat stretch of highway where I can try to find its maximum speed in lean burn.

I must confess... I feel so bad for not being able to get even close to 78 mpg with my diesel. I must be doing something terribly wrong...

what is the difference between a D15Z1 and a B15Z1? I am not a honda guy but I was curious. the fact that you got 70+ without lean burn is awesome and now you are on your way to 80 is outstanding.

was your body work trial and error or did you study aerodynamics to get the shape right?

That was a typo, the engine is a D15Z1. The body is a mix of trial and error and the aerodynamic study of aircraft and existing low Cd cars.

I truly didn't know about the D vs the B. I honestly couldn't even tell you what they mean. I do know that there is a B motor but I think it is a 1.6

I have a friend that was an aircraft mechanic and he thought your car was awesome. he asked if you were into aviation. at the time, I didn't know.

I'm very interested in aviation and I used a lot of aircraft influences in laying out my car's shape. Aircraft by design need to have extremely low drag, so I used a lot of their designs in shaping my car.

are the slopes on your boat tail at a 10 degree grade? I have heard that is the best slope but that may just be hear-say

I can't quite bring myself to drastically modify my car yet but I do like to see people that have and have seen results like yours.

also I noticed that your garage said that you swapped the motor at 500k + miles. that is awesome. was that on the original CX engine? I know hondas are good but that is outstanding.

Its about 12 degrees. I used the tailcone of the Questair Venture as a pattern.

This is the 3rd engine, the CX engine lasted to 245,000 miles, the 2nd engine had 35,000 miles on it when installed and lasted to 503,000 miles.

so you have roughly 700k miles on the car? wow that truly is amazing. what all have you replaced on it?

what do you do that makes you drive so much. I guess if I drove that much, I would find some innovative ways to save on gas too.

have you actually taken it to a wind tunnel or have you just put your dimensions into that computer program. I actually saw your car on youtube once (at least a computer program looking at drag) it was an extremely short video if I remember right.
