Cycling in 2010

Today is the first day that temperature rose above freezing, got my first outdoor ride for this year, 21.6 mi. about 2200 ft. vertical elevation change.

This is as good as any, I suppose.....
How about making this thread the 2010 pedaling distance tally thread?

For me: After a truly terrible winter (two bouts of flu, broken rib, numerous medical tests related to sleep apnea, low iron, low platelet count, as well as weather issues with no extended period of cleared streets) I have finally ridden again for the first time since late October. I have a lot of catching up to do, but 4+ months out of the saddle have left my tushy and quads in need of some toughening and re-conditioning before I can really hammer again.
Let the pain begin!

I have to re-chain my bike and get on it soon. I hope to begin riding in 2 weeks.

I'm thinking that I might do some recreational riding this year. I need the exercise.

I think that every year as spring rolls around, but maybe this year I'll actually do it.

Sounds like me. My bike is still hanging in the garage...with the 1984 tires still on it (amazingly, they still hold air), but with much of the Chinese gum rubber flaking away.

I have a housemate who keeps trying to foist his old bicycle off on me...maybe I'll give in and take it...it at least has new tires...

theholycow 03-18-2010 05:02 PM

$6 WalMart tires are acceptable, if necessary.

LOL, my bike still has the 1984 tires on it as well. Its a Huffy "Team America" (1984 Olympics) 10 speed Its a wonderful metallic blue with stars all over it.

GasSavers_JoeBob 03-18-2010 09:44 PM

I wonder if your Huffy was still made in Azusa, CA (not far from where I lived at the time)...seems about that time was when they closed their factory down and turned it into a Costco...

Mine is a Huffy 10 speed also...much older model, I bought it well used in 1978 or '79. Rode it a fair amount during the '79 embargo...

I'll have to check & see next time I'm at my parent's house. Right now its hanging upside down from the ceiling in the basement.
