Need ideas on finding a good test route.
 

I'm trying to find a map something like map quest that shows you the distance from point a to point b plus showing stop signs and stop lights. Does anyone know of a creature???

I have been driving around trying to find a decent testing route. But it would be easier and a lot faster if you could look up something on the Internet.

Also I was wondering when they do these "Economy Run Events" like the one on the other "e" word forum why are the distances so short
(around a 100 miles)???

It seems they need to be at least over 400 miles long. I know it would take all day but the results would be way more accurate when it comes to fuel mileage.

A Economy Run Event that's around 400+ miles would take a lot of the Coefficients of Gasoline Expansion out of the equation 950 x 10-6. These methods that they use are always given inflated fuel mileage numbers that aren't real with their one click at the pump method.

If I really wanted to find out what good a mod was doing, I would do ABA and use the "graduated cylinder" method like the Mythbusters used on their "golf ball car."

I know that isn't a route, but it is a way to test. The plus is that you don't have to spend all day driving 400 miles.

with Google Maps you can drive down many streets in the US. go to the maps on google.com and turn on satellite view. zoom down all the way and you'll be in street view., you can rotate the image so it's like driving down the road.

I have used Google Maps Street View to test a route, not for fuel economy but just so I'd be familiar with it when I get there. I always get lost in cities, but if I virtually drive the route I do a lot better.

This morning I found out that the latest version of Google Earth has Street View and it's a little better (and much faster) than using Google Maps.

Its been about a ten year process. This is a pic of my first engine that I built that would get around 50mpg and it ran a personal best of 11.8@130mph spinning the tires all the way through 4th gear on street tires.

My new engine should be able to run high 10 second 1/4 miles times at over 135mph with slicks. Its a much more improved engine with a better turbo manifold and turbo.

OK I have been using Google Earth with its Street View and I should have a great test route for this weekend.

I'm hoping it doesn't rain.:( I will have to postpone it if it does.
