2 years at gassavers and....

according to my personal gas log, since I have been here

miles driven 29289.2
gallons used 854.594
average cost $2.924771
average MPG 34.29747
average miles/tank 457.6438

EPA average 25mpg

now the good stuff

average cost/mile 8.5338 cents
gallons saved (against EPA) 316.974
money saved (against EPA) $927.0765
free miles/tank (against EPA) 123.818

cheesy summary:

my car having almost 198K miles on it is probably running better than when I first got it 6+ years ago with ~95k miles on it. I have logged in close to 30k miles since I have been here on gassavers. calculated against my EPA average, I have gone the equivalent of 10871.41 miles for free. I get an average of 123.818 free miles per tank....or about 3 free round trips to work. here lately my mileage has dropped off but so have the overall miles I have been driving. when I first came to gassavers, I was logging in close to 500 miles a week and now that number is close to cut in half.

I know there are people on here with larger numbers (or smaller, depending on the figure) but I will take what I can get. i think that my accomplishments are what an average joe could do with a scangauge and a little time.

hopefully the coming year will be better than the last (I think I said this once before)

That's great! There should be a section for results (or at least, a thread). It would be very encouraging to newcomers, and people who don't think it's worth it.
I've been thinking about opening a gas-saver business (retrofitting cars, and teaching techniques, etc..). It would be great to have long term [unbiased] results to show.

Good job, BEEF.

I might be PM'ing you about Cavaliers in the near future. My mom is driving a '97 now.

one of the big things I seem to hear a lot is that people can't afford a scangauge. I have paid for mine several times over.

until you really put pencil to paper (not literally), you don't really know what a difference your small every day efforts are really making.

I think it would be good for more people to share how much they have saved. I will admit, I have spent a lot on my car (more time than money) but it is a hobby so it is something I enjoy.

project84, PMs welcome. not sure how much I can help you but I will do what I can

I'm still thinking of getting a ScanGauge but probably not until the summer. I'm getting 6 MPG better than the EPA but my commute is mostly highway.

Congratulations! Come to think of it, i have no idea when i joind... have to look that up...

Dr. Jerryrigger 04-08-2010 08:47 PM

oh, September, that seems too resent, but I have been reading for longer (always comes up on a google search)

Project84 04-09-2010 03:36 AM

Krazy - how are you only managing 35mpg in the Yaris?! I see that it's an auto, but come on man, air those tires up and/or buy that scangauge ASAP!
