Accent Blue
Has anybody driven the 2010 Accent Blue yet? Evidently they changed the gear ratios.
I got this email from Hyundai. I had requested the gear ratios for the Accent Blue a couple of months ago. Thank you for contacting Hyundai Motor America. We appreciate the opportunity to address your question regarding the gear ratios for the 2010 Accent Blue. The gear ratios for the 2010 Accent blue are as follows: - 1st (3.615) - 2nd (1.950) - 3rd (1.286) - 4th (0.886) - 5th (0.733) - Reverse (3.583) We have documented your inquiry in case # _______. Please reference this case if you require any further assistance from us. Thank you for contacting Hyundai Consumer Affairs. The ratios for the 2006-2009 were: Five-speed manual Gear Ratios First 3.62:1 Second 2.05:1 Third 1.37:1 Fourth 1.03:1 Fifth 0.84:1 Reverse 3.58:1 Final-drive ratio 4.06:1 I turn 3700-3800 rpm @ about 75mph with my 2008. There's a sweet spot in the torque curve around 2800. I'm thinking the new 2010 will do quite a bit better on gas mileage at 75mph. Thoughts? |
What's the final gear's ratio on the new one?
|
that is a good point. you still have a differential to contend with. it is interesting that it has 2 overdriven gears.
if I had to assume, I would say that the differential gearing is probably the same but you never know. |

I'm hoping it didn't change. |
This Hyundai dealer's website for the Hyundai Accent Blue gives a 4.056:1 final drive ratio, but it has different values for several gear ratios - notably only 5th gear is an overdrive, per this site.

Car and Driver has your stated gear ratios, and the 4.06:1 final drive ratio.
|
dang i woulda hoped it was better...

So the final drive didn't change. I guess that's good news. Interestingly, the automatic is listed as 4th gear that's 0.69:1 and final drive of 4.04:1. I'd like to see a torque curve for the engine also. If anybody knows of a link, please post it. I saw one for a pre 2006 model (I don't remember what year it was) and it had a bump in the curve @ about 2800. I haven't done the math, but I think 2800 rpm would put you around 65 mph. Anybody have the time to figure it out? I might test drive one soon. I would consider selling my 2008 and getting a 2010 if the mileage is better. I think the engine will last longer with that gearing driving 75mph 100 miles per day. Kuripot |
This will do the calculations quickly:
https://f-body.org/gears I don't know the tire size or I'd feed it all in now. |
Using the link from the above post it gives the following:
2010 Accent: 5th Gear RPM MPH 2800 = 66 3000 = 71 3200 = 76 3400 = 81 That's a big improvement over my 2008: 2800 = 58 3000 = 62 3200 = 66 3400 = 70 3600 = 74 3800 = 78 3900 = 80 |
