Hello, Joe here from the California Scooter Company. We make a modern version of the Mustang motorcycle here in the US, and in recent testing our bike attained 98 mpg in surface street traffic.

Nice concept, and having owned bikes up to 1100 cc (bigger engine than my current CAR!) I like the idea of small. BUT....I think I'd be hard pressed to spend $5 grand or more for something that isn't (or if it is, just barely) freeway legal.

Up the displacement a bit, lower the price, and, if you can make a profit, you might have something.

I was going to ask if your riding jacket costs more than the bike but... whoa...

Yeah, $5k will get you a nice used Ninja, Buell Blast, Shadow, V-Star, or Vulcan. I can't see paying $5k for something as small as that.

Well, I suppose since the original Mustang bike sold for $539 in 1963, $4995 isn't quite so far out of line. But...since I paid $3499 for a 1981 GoldWing back in 1981, it just seems like a lot...

And, according to their website, they ARE built here in California (La Verne).

Joe is trying something new and no doubt zeroing his sights at this time. I, and I'd venture to say that many of us here, would like to see a motorcyle that is really fun to ride and own that also gets fantastic mileage. The difference lies in that us gassavers are mostly cheapskates. I'd guess that Joe is targeting the group that decides to spend more money on toys than we do.

Keep at it Joe! The more choice in motorcycles the better. Personally I'd like to see a production 250cc aerodynamic streamliner motorcycle to break 100mpg at freeway speeds. Craig Vetter is casting the first efforts at the design goals. All the mechanical parts needed are in production in a variety of motorcycles, we just need a good body designer to get the aero, design interest and practicality nailed.

Heh heh, IIRC the '82 Gold Wing retailed for $4200. I recently got one for $500.

I like the little bike but as noted above, I wouldn't hand over anything near $5k for one. Guess I'll have to wait 10 years for them to start showing up on the used market.

What really torques my crank is Honda's decision to isolate North America as the only market to NOT sell Super Cubs to! :mad: I would love love love to get a new Super Cub... but even then.... I might wait until I could score a used one for less...

It definitely has a retro look to it, but how well to they ride? I notice the rear wheel is rigidly mounted to the frame, and the seat is sprung. The major bike manufacturers pretty much abandoned that design many years ago in favor of springs and/or shocks on the rear wheel.

It rides and handles magnicently. Check out our blog at www.CaliforniaScooterCo.com/blog/ for riding impressions. The handling in the twisties is outstanding. Riding it, you'd never know it was a hardtail.
