Hi new accord in town
 

Hello my name is Gabriel i purchased a 2002 honda accord ex coupe auto with 76k miles about 3 months ago. So far Ive been averaging 21-24 mpg and 27mpg being my best but i havent really done anything special to get that mpg. So i decided to join this forum to hopefully break that gas mileage and see what i can really get out of this car. The car is fully stock i replaced my tires recently w/ General Altimax Hp since my old tires were bald and alignment was off and also switched to Mobil 1 Synthetic 0w-20 Advanced Fuel Economy. Im looking forward to contributing to this website as much as i can and join other people just like me with the same ambitions to save gas and taking car of their cars. :D

I can't say for everyone but some of us are kind of slow. we get around to it but it takes a while sometimes

welcome! i have a 97 w/ AT. i avg over 30 mpg driving a 60hwy/40city mix. you may get a different opinion here, but i'd stay away from 0w20 especially in summer. 0w30 should get you just as good at cold starts, w/ a better heat protection/lube.

The recommended oil weight is 5w-20 and according to mobil 1 ow-20 would be the same. Ive yet to see any gains from the oil if i dont start getting better mileage ill go back to 5w-20. Those are some nice numbers for a AT. I drive 30hwy/70city i work at night so my night driving consists of flashing lights and steady throttle. Oh yeah i live in miami not sure if that plays a role in my oil viscosity

Im sorry did you recommend me 0w-30 and then say i should avoid 0w-30 in warmer climates ? I was thinking this might be very thin oil, specially for a 8 year old car ill prolly go back to 5w-20. Ive only put like 500 miles on this oil lol. So yeah it might be another 4 months till it gets changed.

Personally, I use 0W30 synthetic in my 12 year old pickup truck with 170,000 miles, and the DC area gets some really hot summers. The truck runs flawlessly. I'd say I'm having no ill-effects from using this oil. I also bumped my 29 year old Buick from the recommended 10W30 (in 1981) to 5W30 synthetic, and I experience no issues in that vehicle as well. Remember, the first number is what the oil is cold. This is your startup protection. The thinner the oil is at startup, the quicker it will pump through your cold engine and start doing its job protecting your engine.
