VX Alternator - Denso vs. Mitsubishi

The Denso alternator on my VX died the other day. The laminations on the rotor got rusty and then started rubbing against the windings on the outer case. Not easily rebuidable.

So I called around and could only find a Mitsubishi alternator locally. The parts listings show only the Denso alternator for the VX and I know that the ECU controls the voltage output of the alternator to maximize gas mileage.

So does anyone know if the Mitsubishi alternator is compatible with the VX?

I don't know about the compatibility issue.

I suggest that you check out www.car-part.com It is a quick way to search all of the salvage yards in your area.

You might also check rockauto.com and see if they list both alternators as fitting your car.

Are you trying to buy used or new?

I'm looking for a rebuilt alternator.

I believe these cars came with either one or the other. The online manual shows pictures of both in the same manual, for servicing them. As long as its the Mitsubishi for the VX. In fact, I think my VX has one of those, not the Denso.

i've noticed in recent years, it's often a better deal to buy new(just a little more $$$)--do not discount a new one!
