My wifes Toyota road trip results

Went on a road trip this weekend with a much slower mph average speed 58-60mph. I thought it was going to be a personal best for the Toyota but it turned out to be the same fuel mileage 39.5mpg.

The major difference was ambient temperature from our before trip of 85*F to this last weekend's trip of 68*F.

So what gains we made in slowing down we loss in temperature.:(

Bummer. Slowing down is usually magical in its effects on FE.

YMMV, in my car 10mph slower helps tons. its best around 40mph in 5th. You car is probably has decent aerodynamics, and gearing in the transmission..

I get a steady 50 mpg at 49 mph in 5th... I can never drive at that speed for very long, though.

I usually drive 60-70 mph on the way to work and back. I actually get better mileage when driving 65-70 because I draft more (traffic is pretty tight). If I drive more slowly, everyone just passes me by. I average 33 mpg on my commute, and only 34 mpg when driving on the interstate at a steady 65 mpg. Go figure. Forced P & G?

New road trip today for the Toy in about an hour, distance 700 miles.

We were going to take the Del Sol but I don't want to be this far away from home for the first major trip.

Anyway we will be going over several passes and I'm gong to try some gliding techniques. The down side... its raining and probably will be the whole trip.

Well I couldn't improve on my last month trip mpg. The traffic was way to fast going through Montana. So I had to keep around a 70mph avg.

The best I got was 38.5mpg:(
