Java Help Please

Java is the problem.
Old Java is blocking new Java from working with streaming stock charts.
I have a bunch of Java's in the "add - remove" list but when I highlight them there is no 'remove' button.
How do I remove the ones I can't remove?

Re: Java Help Please

It is likely that the old ones without a Remove button are merely old entries in the list that don't represent actual software that's installed.

Use Revo Uninstaller. It will likely be able to remove them whether they're stubs or actual installations. There is a free version and a paid version; the free version is fully competent to do the job.

However, the symptom that started you on that journey is that you have two conflicting versions. Most likely, you have Microsoft Java and Sun Java. I've never had Microsoft Java but I imagine it may be difficult to uninstall as well as non-functional...that's the sort of thing Microsoft usually screws up badly. See if you can get rid of all versions of Java, then install the latest Sun Java.

These links look like they might help in removing Microsoft Java.

It appears to be an involved, manual process with the potential to break stuff, but it is also necessary. Microsoft apparently discontinued their version of Java years ago and does not offer updates to keep it functional and secure.

I got some answers. Having buddies willing to help is a good, cheap, way to fix a problem. I am thankful.

What's your definition of "old Java"?

How To Uninstall Java

In order to fully remove and uninstall Java from your computer, you can do two things.

1 - You do it manually and then directly editing the registry, and removing the installation files.
2 - You use a Java Uninstaller to do it automatically.

I highly recommend you that if you are looking for a Java removal plan, that you use option two. Doing it manually has a couple of huge downsides. You'll not only have to remove Java from your drivers, but you've also got to go inside your registry to remove any left over files and this opens you up to potential registry corruption. Unless you are very familiar with working inside the registry itself, you might want to use an "uninstaller".

Java Uninstaller

There are thousands of 'uninstaller' programs but many simply fail to work properly. The best of the bunch is called Perfect Uninstaller. The Perfect Uninstaller will help you to fully remove Java by doing three things:

1 - First, the Perfect Uninstaller uninstalls Java installation and program files,
2 - Commences a scanning of both your registry and your drivers to find out if there are any left over files,
3 - Once the scan has been completed, the uninstaller will start deleting any additional files that have been found.

HTH. Good luck.

And

Don't forget to do a drive by picture of someone drinking java - your thread wouldn't be complete without it...
