Guess The Vehicle
I have a 2011 Vehicle. Run the speed limit and do not shut off at red lights. No special hypermiling techniques other than keeping rpm down and not charging lights.
3 Stop Signs, 9 Traffic Lights and 10 Turns. 1 mile of 30 mph 0.5 mile of 40 mph 7 miles of 45 mph 1 mile of 55 mph 3 miles of 60 mph 3 miles of 70 mph 15.5 miles total from a cold start, Average 25-28 mpg in 15F-80F conditions. Guess the vehicle. |
Re: Guess The Vehicle
Manual or automatic? Body style?
Lots of late-model cars would fit the description you've given. With your username being Tightwad I imagine it would be something inexpensive (i.e. no Honda tax). Hyundai Accent or Kia Forte would be my first guesses. |
Re: Guess The Vehicle
Yes there are many vehicles that could get 25-28mpg under those conditions. Since you are driving with FE in mind I'll assume you're getting a few mpg better than epa average, although there is plenty of variability in driving technique.
Candidates could be a compact pickup or suv, small or mid size sedan. |

Re: Guess The Vehicle
My vote goes to Mercury Grand Marquis. Its surprising how well they do, despite their size.
|
Re: Guess The Vehicle
It's obviously a 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni.
Were there any manual grand marquis? -BC |
Re: Guess The Vehicle
Hyundai Accent Blue, or Mini Cooper are my guesses.
|
Re: Guess The Vehicle
Its to late to edit: But if its not obvious the route above is my daily commute. 15.5 miles each way.

Mustang.

Re: Guess The Vehicle
Dodge Charger or Challenger? (I'm quite sure Dodge only puts manual transmissions on the HEMI-equipped vehicles)
|
Re: Guess The Vehicle
I was thinking Challenger too but, as you say, they don't offer stick with V6 in those cars, and the fact that Crown Vic and Camaro are equally close means it must be a Mustang...Crown Vic would be close for having the same manufacturer (and maybe the same engine), while Camaro would be close for having the same market and similar configuration.

Wow. Is this based upon a fill up, or based upon an on board MPG calculator?

Re: Guess The Vehicle
Best tank was 27.65 mpg. Worst was 25.10 mpg. Based on old fashioned miles/gallons at the same pump at the same station. It is G100 instead of E10 which helps.
The Information Center runs 2-7% Low (Average of 4.2%). It runs closer in cold temps and farther off in warmer temps. This car has never returned less than 20 mpg in 5,000+ miles even when I had a 2.6 mile commute (Averaged 22.5 mpg during warmer weather) and during the initial tank (20.0 mpg) that included ring seating (Alternating High Load / High Vacuum cycles). But then I have always short shifted / skip shifted high torque engines in normal driving (I consider this simple common sense as opposed to hypermiling as a I still out pace 90% of the traffic from lights). I save the 1st gear launches and 6800 rpm powershifts for the 12.6 @ 114 track passes. It gets 3.5 mpg better in town than my old 300 bhp 4.6L SOHC 3V. On the highway the difference is smaller. Maybe 1.5 mpg. For a V8 I think Ford did a very good job with the 5.0L DOHC 4V. I would not be surprised to see 20.0 mpg + averages for people who use some common sense in a 5000 lb 2011 F150 (Same engine detuned to 360 bhp). |
Re: Guess The Vehicle
Not to mention the cool factor of a new V-8 Mustang...what color? (Although this doesn't affect FE, it does affect my heart rate...)
|
Re: Guess The Vehicle
I would say color does effect fuel economy. Dark color cars will require more a/c use in warm weather.
|
Re: Guess The Vehicle
True enough! Must be why all the fleet cars in Phoenix are white or silver...
|
Re: Guess The Vehicle
It's really sad that your 400+hp 5.0 v8 mustang is getting better mpg than my old 108hp 2.3 4cyl mustang.
|
Re: Guess The Vehicle
Whats really sad is my Mother's 2007 Hyundai Accent Automatic. Typically 26 mpg (City with her driving) with an all time best of 31 mpg (Highway with me driving). I would say the 2011 5.0 gets about 10% worse on average.
Color is Grabber Blue. |
Re: Guess The Vehicle
Beats my Mustang handily and yet with all that power...:( I need that 5,0l roller motor with 5-speed swap...

Re: Guess The Vehicle
Awesome! Fords on a roll with ecoboost,coyote,5.0.
Glad your having fun with what most consider a "earth killing muscle car" LOL! Can't wait for a few years when all this technology ends up in junkyards! |
