Good deal on a DX

Hello everyone, new here and will introduce myself in the appropriate place soon. For now, I need a new car and have been researching and looking at the 92-95 Honda HB VX with no luck at finding one worth having. I'm currently looking at a 93 HB DX manual that I really like, but am afraid buying it might be a long-term mistake. How much of gas mileage difference between the VX and DX should I expect on average.

It can depend. A well-maintained DX will probably do only 5 mpg behind a poorly-maintained VX. However, a well-maintained VX, when driven as it is supposed to be driven, can be awesome.

One Indiana member here has a DX or LX 4-door 5-speed that cracks 50-52 mpg during spring-fall months. At the same time, though, I was getting 57-65 in my VX on a regular basis.

I've seen VX drivers report as low as 32 mpg. That's well within reach of a DX.

I'd say that if the DX is in great shape, and you can't find a good VX, go ahead and spring for the DX. You can always trade up later if you find the ultimate VX. Good VXs are getting harder and harder to find.

...but keep the scale in mind - 10mpg is a 20% difference at the scale we're talking about, not a 50% difference.
