Grab your camera!

wildflower viewing in the late afternoon light with tastings of Suisun Valley wines.."

Cool. Thanks for posting. I think we'll take one of those train rides.

Have you been on The Wine Train?

No, never have. I've ridden Amtrak's Coast Starlight, Capitol Express, San Joaquin, and California Zephyr, though. Also other trains outside of California.

The Napa Wine Train
https://encrypted.google.com/search?...i=g10&aql=&oq=
is owned by a chef who loves trains.
You guessed it; half the passengers dine as the train slowly goes up the valley and they switch places on the way back.
The dining is very good and the pace s-l-o-w-s you d-o-w-n so it seems like a full day vacation.
Go with one or three people you like. You'll love it.

I'm turned off by the Wine Train's feud with the Napa wineries. There's something wrong with a Napa wine tour that doesn't stop at any wineries, and isn't welcome at any of them.

I like the idea of the basic WRM tour, or first class with lemonade and cookies. I plan to piggyback that with a Jepson Prairie tour.

You must see glacier run-off from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxg2_O6D0vw the train in Skagway.

I lived in Alaska, but Skagway and the rest of SE AK is isolated from the rest of the state. When we finally visited, we took a tour bus instead of the train to the top of the pass. Beautiful scenery, for sure.

Shatto,

Just wanted to thank you for the thread. We took a docent walk in the Jepson Prairie Saturday morning, seeing the unique Clam Shrimp, Tadpole Shrimp, and an endangered California Tiger Salamander, among others. There were lots of colorful wildflowers in bloom, including Meadowfoam, Goldfields, California Golden Violets, etc.

Then we had lunch at Foster's Bighorn in Rio Vista. You, the former professional hunter, must know about that. I always marvel at the 1-3/4 curl Marco Polo Sheep & the Chinese Argali, but also the African Elephant head mount & his double Grand Slam of North American sheep.

We finished in time to ride the WRM's 2 p.m. train ride to see different wildflowers - Sheep's Sorrel, vetch, lupines, owl's clover, wild mustard. They told us the hail and rain/wind meant they saw no wildflowers the previous weekend.
