Fetch may be buying a truck

My sister-in-law's dad is wanting to sell his truck. It is a 1985 GMC Sierra 2WD with 125,000 miles. It hasn't been driven much in a few years. My sister-in-law said that he tried to GIVE the truck to my brother. I'm hoping to get it cheap. If the price isn't right, I won't buy.

It has a cracked windshield and dry-rotted tires, and I'm not sure what engine it has. I believe that was the first year for the 4.3 V6, or it could have the 305 V8. I honestly don't care. I'll only drive it to do my dirty work or haul our tandem bike.

I do know it has a 3-on-the-tree, which got me excited. I love manuals, and I love oddities. It will be hilarious to take it to a tire store and watch the guy try to drive it onto the rack.

That age would have a 4.2 (250ci) inline 6. That will be a good snag if you get it

Rusty (My 86 Chevy C-10) has a 305 V-8 with almost 200,000 miles and its a gutless wonder. Its probably better with a manual than the automatic I have. Good solid trucks, and they ride nice too. Tires are relatively cheap as you can get away with putting car tires on it if you don't plan on hauling much weight. P235/75/R15 tires will give excellent results. That's what I have on Rusty.

My dad has an '86 Chevy Scottsdale with a 305, 3-speed auto, and 2.73 rear end. That has got to be one of the most gutless things I've ever driven. But it hauls stuff, which is what I need, although not often.

I think that the '85 was the first year for the 4.3L V6. I'm not sure. I know that the 4.2 I-6 was a great engine, but we've had a few 4.3s in the family, too. I am fine either way. If it has the 305, 307, or 350, I'll be fine, too. :)

I hope it has limited slip and has had the tranny and differential fluid changed recently. That would be an added bonus.

Of course, it all depends on if the price is right.

I'm all set as far as daily drivers go. I do think that a truck will come in handy, especially if I get it cheap. I'll have to see.

Check with your insurance and see if they carry a 'glass rider' like Farmers.
I usually find a glass guy who covers the deductible so my new windshield every year or two cost nothing.

As it turns out, he won't be selling until the end of the summer. I'll probably end up buying it then.
