Heat Shield..

Heat Shield on or off. I have noticed through out the garage that some folks have them on and some have them off. Pros and Cons?? I am referring to the exhaust manifold heat shield..

i can give no proof off cons, but i don't believe the possible increased warm up time or warm air intake effect would be measurable enough for me to take a chance of negative consequences.

oh that heat sheild... i dunno the ones on our cars always fall off... same with the cat heat shield...

the one in my chevette is still intact and ive noticed in the dead of winter it makes a noticeable difference if i have the tube on it or not. BUT it is carbed and manual choked so i dunno if the obd1 &2 computers can handle the difference or it it goes into some goofy mode...

more for cat light-off time and reduced under-hood temps than anything.

Ask your race car friends and they will probably tell you you want to keep the exhaust as hot as possible so the gasses move out faster.
Remember that some of those shields protect stuff down there.
