This isn't to say one way or the other on whether aliens visited Earth in the past, but most hypothesis I've seen on the subject smack of arrogance and ancientism. They mostly boil down to this. An ancient civilization made something impressive. We can't figure out how, or maybe even why, they did it. Rather than admit that some supposedly more primitive culture was cleverer than us, an even more extra ordinary, aliens, explanation is conceived.

Back to the OP, something to keep in mind with Easter Island that doesn't come through photos, is that the people who made the statues had forests with all that lumber at their disposal, and used it all up. Possibly leading to their civilization's collaspe. Vikings did the same thing on Greenland, and it happened to the cedars of Lebanon.

Since, it was on the front page of bowtie's first link. It's a misconception that the Nazca lines are only viewable from the sky. They are viewable from the surrounding hills.
