New low mileage VX... and pics of my almost finished (bodywork) 92 VX

So...
I already own a 1992 VX and I am about 2 weeks from having it out of the paint booth and back on the road. I have been looking for another one for the last year or so ( low mileage, rust free, and relatively cheap) and I finally found one that fits the bill. I just purchased a 1995 VX with 94k original miles! The car is very clean and runs wonderfully. It needs a few dings/bumps fixed in order to be 100% but that's an easy one for me as I own a body shop... but there is ZERO rust! I have never seen a VX this clean, interior is great! I will post some pics tomorrow when I bring it home.

Just thought I would post a few pics of where my 92 was a few weeks ago in the bodywork process. It's much closer now: all panels are fully welded in, gound down, and skim coated with filler. I have a few more hours of sanding and they are ready for 3 heavy coats of poly-primer. I had to make the lower front quarters as they had a few specs of rust (which of course means the backside of the panel is swiss cheese). I also had to make the rockers and part of the lower door jambs. Not too bad of a job, but somewhat time consuming. I could have done it the easy/cheap way... but being the owner of a shop that does high-quality resto's, I just can't do that type of work (even on a 20 yr. old Civic). Just thought you guys would like to see a few pics of metal/body work.

It will be nice to have one that requires no rust repair :)

Looks great! I had to do that to my project car as well. The only difference in how I did it was to step down the quarter and mount the new quarter patches with 3m panel bond.

About 1 hr of finish sanding and then these panels and the rest of the car will be buried in a few coats of poly-primer (4 coats on areas with bodywork, 2 coats on the rest). Poly-primer is an extremely high build primer (actually a spray filler) that allows you to block the car out lazer straight without several priming sessions. This will be sanded with 80 grit, then 180 grit. I then will spray the normal 2K urethaned primer that will be blocked with 320, then 600 grit. Then... it's spray time! Still deciding on what color to shoot, would like to use up some excess product in the shop... but I may just go with the stock milano red.

Great job. Incredible find on that 1995 low mileage VX. Congrats! Thanks for the contribution.

Quick question VX owners:

Does anyone know what the creaking noise is from the suspension when going over speed bumps? Is that the bushings being worn out? Speed bumps are taken hard by the suspension of the 92 VX I drive, more of a thud and creaking from the suspension even when the bumps/humps are driven over really slowly.

Thoughts or help thank you.

Possibly trailing arm bushings.

Yeah... I use panel bonding adhesive a lot (it works well), I just felt like welding these in.

^If I remember right, there are a couple other VX restoration threads on these forums. Check them out, some impressive jobs done.

So, I finally got the opportunity to bury the body, doors and fenders in poly-primer (G2 Featherfill). These 3 coats of primer are equivalent in thickness to 9-10 coats of regular high build primer. Heres a few pics (boring, but progress).
