Read through the "201 Tips to Save Gas".

1st priority is to air up tires to sidewall maximum.

2nd priority is to make sure spark plugs/boots are in good shape. When in doubt change it out.

3rd priority is to learn how to hypermile.

Thanks. I was thinking of buying some hx wheels for the car and want to know if lighter wheels would really make a big difference. on gas. my current rims are 15.5 and the hx are 11.75

scangauge/ultragauge, it is hard to tell what works and what doesn't if you have no way to gauge it.

https://www.scangauge.com/
https://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm

both do about the same thing. the ultragauge is cheaper. they are MPG meters, scantools, and so much more.

regardless of which you choose, it is good to have an indicator.

Re: Just recently bought a 96 Civic cx

I just put in some VX wheels with good tires and in Winter weather and no modifications i was able to get 48 mpgs. When I did 42mpgs I had 14 inch alloy wheels. The vx wheels are a great improvement. But I need to buy a scangauge and am checking online and there are many to buy. Does anyone know whats a good deal. I see one for 69 dollars and am wondering if this is a legit buy. here is the link https://www.obdgate.com/universal-Dia...-one-1254.html

should I buy from Amazon a more reliable website there price is 130 range?

lighter weight wheels are good for city driving but if you're driving 35 and above the main issue is drag and air flow. Check out the white 4 door civic that averages 70 mpgs with slight mods I don't know how it's possible but her gas history proves she's doing it.

You rang? I spend more time at some other sites these days, but keep my log updated here.

It's all in the driving style. Pulse & glide is a big part of it, EOC improves that even more. Having a gauge (scan or ultra) is critical to fine-tuning your driving.

If you look back in my log, the Scangauge gave me the first 45+ tank, and P&G bumped me over 50 mpg.

After that it's been years of practice and continual refining my technique.
