2001 KTM Duke 2 new to me!
 

I just bought this last weekend and have been having TONS of fun on this thing!

Just figured I'd share and open up any questions some of you might have.

It's a single cylinder 625cc engine. I have been getting used to riding the paint-shaker the past week and even with it's extended choke time to warm it up and my more than spirited ridin style it's been getting 45-55mpg steady. My last tank was 49.2!

So far it's a hoot!

I had a 03 KTM Adv and a 2000 660 Rallye, both have that same LC4 engine as your Duke.. They both "walked" down the driveway on their own while idling, once past 12k mi. those engine smoothes out quite a bit.

Not sure if those spoked wheels are OEM, I thought Duke have OEM machined aluminum wheels...

It would be nice to try one, to see the difference from my own large single (Teresa is 652cc and tuned to yield 50hp and 62nm at 5500rpm on paper). She doesn't walk anywhere idling, unless it's cold and she raises that idle to ~1800-2000rpm.

What I'm really curious us that similar engines can really be tuned so very differently or it's just me and my hypermiling, low-revving style that makes the difference :D

Yes, I really don't have much experience with different bikes, I've never ridden any beside our two and the instructors' ones... but the reviewers say very different things about F650s and Dukes, so there must be something in the bikes too :D

The spoked wheels came on '01-02 model years from what I've read. The machined wheels came later.

As for the thump at idle it's not terrible, less than my friend's Buell Blast 500cc single... but his is smoother on the seat at 50mph than mine... that's when mine's rattling your guts out! I've gotten used to it now w/ 1,000 miles logged in the past month.

Apparently the Duke makes 46hp to the wheel in stock form, some cheap mods like carb jets, debaffle of exhaust, and airbox mod will yeild 50-51hp. All of which I plan to do now that I'm used to the stock power and my riding style has adapted.
