Colder temps and worst fuel economy!?

Guys in Midwest we have temperatures changing daily sometime. It could be 80 then next day will be 50-60F. What i noticed is that when it's 70-80 my VX does good job at fuel economy but when 60F and below hits, not talking about winter temps but those once my fuel economy drops substantially. Does that mean lean burn stops working? How to remedy this if there is a one? Some people i heard change to higher temp thermostat? But wouldn't that mean hotter engine temps and engine damage or excessive wear? What about cat converter and exhaust. My exhaust is getting pretty worn out now. Does exhaust have anything to do with fuel economy when colder? Thank you guys in advance.

It's possibly more due to the engine taking a bit longer to get to operating temp(oil thicker the colder temps are upon start up), taking a bit longer for the system to get to closed loop and the need for more fuel the colder the incoming air vs. combustion chamber temps.

A lot of contributing factors to blame one thing.

Addict any way to remedy this. I think i will get ****ty gas tank milage and i drive like i have glass in the trunk. On the flip side i'm in big city with lots of stop lights and it's 90% city driving. Can't hypermile or EOC as i would get killed by some suv. lol

^I'm in a 'similar' but not as severe city driving like area.

That's probably the biggest thing as far as fuel economy for you.

What oil and grade are you using? How much is the oil consumption rate? Might be higher in stop 'n go but some apps will have more at steady speeds. It varies by app. I know if you go over 2,500 RPM much the consumption will rise as VTEC engages(once the engine is warmed at least, I avoid VTEC until at full temp and also use it only when necessary; which at times is often in this area).

I think my tank will be between 400-425m on probably 8.5 fill up. Shall see. I use 5w30 non synthetic.
But I change gears at 1500 rpms and never change higher then 2000rmps so i always keep her in lean burn mode. If i can get 45 city and 50hwy i'll be happy.
Hoping for that. This tank will tell me basically. My tires are on 44psi too. BTW nice chatting with ya addict.

No probs.

I'm struggling to max 40 MPG myself...Got other issues, though.

the hotter it was, the better the mileage my VX got. It was in the 90s when I was getting my 60-70 mpg tanks... I was lucky to get 45 in the winter.

My VX always performs better the hotter the temps are. I've hit 50 a couple of times when it's really warm, and gotten even better with highway driving in warm weather. However, when it gets cold, you can expect your mpg's to drop significantly. That's pretty much standard for all of these cars.
