91 crx hf

OK guys Im tired of 11 miles to the gallon. I bought a 1991 crx hf that i am flying to michigan to make a final payment for and drive home to NY. I am looking forward to the 650 mile home to see what she does as far as MPG. The man i am bying the hf off of says everything has been replaced and says it will be a worry free car for many years. cant wait to post my mileage logg.

1991 crx hf

ok so i picked up the crx in Michigan and drove it home to NY. the first 300 miles i drove 55-60 mph and I got 50 mpg. the next 300 miles I drove it 65-75mph and I got 40 mpg.

Does that sound right to any of you?? is there anything I sould be on the look out for on this car that will improve the mpg's???

Dont get me wrong I'm happy its not 11mpg anymore but if there is something I can do to make it even better I want to do it.

thanks

Slow down speed = less mpg. Aero mods will help also what Roma are you turning at say 55 are you sure it's really the hf trans?

20% MPG drop off for that speed increase sounds about right to me. At 60mph in my VX I'm at between 55 and 60mpg generally. At 75mph I'm not going to do better than 45mpg (unless I draft).

i took my car to the honda guy and he replace timimg belt, water pump, distibutor, wires and sparkplugs. my last tank with mostly highway was 40mpg's. I was asked if its truly an HF. at 50 mph it running at 1500 rpm at 60 mph it running 1750rpm and at 70mph its running at 2200rpm. Im pretty sure those are HF numbers. does anyone know some other obvious things i should do to get better mpg's??? and as far as slowing down I did get the car over 58 mph for the entire tank except for a few minutes to get the rpm numbers. whenever I got a chance to coast for a long distance in nuetral i did and that was a lot. I never eccelerated to fast. slow slow slow is how i was driving. got to be somethings i can do.???

I see numbers 55,60, and even 70mpg. is that really possible??

Make sure you have the stock size wheels/tires and that the tires are inflated properly (personally I run my tires on all my vehicles at 40-44 psi)

Jack up each wheel and spin it to be sure that the brakes aren't dragging

Be sure that the check engine light works (comes on when you first turn the key on). Read the codes to see if there are any stored codes present.

Slowly push the EGR valve open with your fingers while the engine is idling, the engine should begin to stumble and will eventually die as you push it open farther. If the engine doesn't die, then you should clean out the egr ports in the intake manifold.

thank you! thank you! Ill let you know how it goes.

2200 rpm at 70 doesn't sound conssitent with 1750 at 60 and 1500 at 50. Shouldn't it be 2000 at 70 given what you report for 50 and 60mph?
