Maybe worth trying on a used lawnmover or motorbycle engine in order to experiment working characteristics of an ICE :)

MegaSquirt has long been used by tuners and people who don't have hondas that can be easily modified. As long as you know what you're doing it;s safe. It's a good system, I like it, though a bit pricier than some of the piggybacks like apexi stuff.

SAFC-2 is good, but it
 

SAFC-2 is good, but it doesn't have everything I want. It's only good for like 12 points in the rpm at 200rpm increments.

So basically this Megasquart is basically a piggy back that controls timing, injectors???

How much is it to build/buy one of these units???

If I can use it as a piggy back it might be useful to get better freeway economy, like when keeping constant speed it will lower fuel intake. So instead of using 2100rpm at 65mph I can use 1900-2000rpm at 65mph. Is that possible? I think the hydrogen generator can do that, but this fuel tuning is more precise.

If it can improve my fuel economy 1000-2500rpm and give me more power at 3000-6100rpm I'm sold.

Also the system supports water injection.

Not 100% sure how much it costs, but there is a team at my school that does this competition every year - this past season [2005] they had a budget of $2005 including the price of the car to build a car and compete in drag racing, road course, and some other competitions. They ended up turbocharging a BMW 325i and used megasquirt in their budget.

I have a Hondata S200 system from my old turbo setup that I'm going to end up using on my Civic. I plan to tune it as lean as possible on 87 octane without experiencing knock.

That isn't going to get me far. The unit alone is $410 plus the wiring, plus a wideband which is an easy $730-800.

For that money I can just pick up a JWT ECU but it's crap.

The best choice for me to is get a SAFC2 and get it dyno tuned. I'll wait till they come out with something better because 12 points in the rpm at 200rpm increments sucks. If it could tune my fuel supply 650-6100rpm then I would definetly get it, plus it will be cheaper than megasquirt.

And the tuning by increments, honda makes their fuel maps in like 500 rpm increments, and tuning that it *** better than safc, so just think about that.

Yeah but I want total control. Also when you tune the safc2 for example you are tuning it for max hp. Let's say I tune it for 13.5:1, will that 13.5:1 affect my regular driving or only when I'm WOT?
