Will be purchasing a 2014 Honda Civic LX CVT this week in Ontario and was wondering for any other owners in Canada what can I expect for kilometers per tank on a fillup driving on the highway from Kingston to Halifax at 100 KPH using cruise all the way. Not sure if this is also a good time to engage the ECO, or if that is better used in city driving. I realize that MPG has alot to do with many factors but looking for a general idea for my summer trip, my current 06 Honda Civic DX-G auto got about 620 km and that was close to empty on the highway on a full tank with no cruise for my trip last year. One other question, do new cars today need a break in period, not even sure if I can drive the new car 4-5000 kms on the highway so soon after buying?

Check the manual, but if there is a break in period, it will be short.

Time to best fuel economy is another story, and likely involves how quickly you mesh with the car.

Purchased the car and love it. Break-in period is 1000 Km's.

Break in just about completed. Will be interesting to se highway mileage using cruise control for longer trips.

I've heard that cruise control, despite holding the car at a constant speed, uses more fuel. I have noticed when using mine, any accent/hill, the acceleration is harsher than you would accelerate yourself to maintain speed.

I wasn't awareof that, maybe that's the case like you said on hills only. Interesting, will pay attention to that as. do alot of long trips.

I also noticed the car will constantly accelerate with CC on, where's when you're in control, you tend to naturally "Pulse and glide" a little, thus saving a bit of fuel. Just a theory, i'm going to try using CC on my next tank and see it makes a difference.

Have used the Cruise with eco during highway trips and computer shows 6.0 L per 100 Km's thats going at 98 KPH. It got as low as 5.9 but not for long, pretty good gas mileage for sure. City on the other hand is between 6.9 - 7.4 depending on air conditioning use; etc etc. The cruise works quite good with no issues at all noticed.
