Return of the king!!!... sort of

Well, return of the Spring at least. I just filled up today and I broke 40mpg.

This is with no correction of the speedometer for larger tires, but for whatever reason I don't think i need to adjust for the larger tires. I checked my speedometer with a handheld GPS unit and I was within +/- 1 mph of the actual speed.

50mpg, here I come!

MetroMPG 02-28-2006 03:14 PM

nice.

nice.

spring's not here yet.

as proof, i was stuck in the snow for about 5 minutes this afternoon. it took me that long to rock the car out of a deep patch in the barn yard where my $75 swift is parked.

(note to self: rocking the car for 5 minutes to get out of a snowdrift is not good for mpg. little bit forward... little bit backward... little bit forward...)

I hate it when that happens! This was kind of my problem when I hit that electric pole back in December. Only thing is I still needed to be pulled out. Someone I know once referred to snow as "sky snot." :D

Yes, after the last 4 days of teens in the mornings, not to mention snow and wet roads, this tank jas dropped below 50 MPG. Looking forward to a break for the rest of the week so I wrestle it back above 50.

Maybe you and your car should head to transporter room 1 and beam over to Indiana. The weather forecast... er guess is for 55 and maybe even 60 and above for tomorrow.

I'm unsure if the past few days have been a freak occurance or if spring is in fact right around the corner.

We actually had to use the air conditioning on the way down! how freaky.

krousdb 03-01-2006 05:55 AM

Woot! 55 MPG!

What a difference 10F makes! Monday on the way to work, 18F, 52.3 MPG. Today, 28F, 55.0 MPG.

W0000t! Back over 50 MPG for this tank!:-D

Crapoline

So when does the crapoline go away? Is it generally the beginning of April? I know every jurisdiction is different, just ballpark...

I think April sounds about right. It may take until closer to the end of the month for all of the crapoline to be fully out of the system though.

I can now join Matt. I broke the 40 mpg barrier! My tank for last weeks driving was 40.6 mpg. This may kind of screw things up for the pill test. Oh well, I'm not going to complain. :D It doesn't look like the pill experiment is goiing to happen anyway.

It was "spring" here for a little over a week. I was so happy.

It snowed like 6 inches this morning. STupid mountains.

On Saturday my Pt Crusier

On Saturday my Pt Crusier said it was 78 degrees. I had to turn the air conditioner on low in the car it was such a heat wave. The 36 hours later or so it was 20 degrees. Typical IOWA

Which reminds me.... Those of us with AC should turn in on during the winter for at least 10 minutes each month. Keeps the system bearings and seals lubed up. Personally I don't use AC, but since my car has it, I plan on keeping it functional for possible resale. Otherwise I could lose like 50-100lbs I would guess.

The cold weather came back yesterday, 20-30F below what we enjoyed last week. What a huge impact on FE last night on the way home, 53.5 vs 60 just the day before. Same cold and windy weather forcated for the next 7 days. There goes my nice tank. :(

Punxatawney Phil predicted this. It appears that he is right once again.

Man it was awesome to blast my AC this past week.

Canadian Rockies

I'm headed to the Canadian Rockies tomorrow for a vacation (Calgary/Banff), so we'll probably run into some snow (hopefully). Doing the rental car analysis will be interesting with the Litres per Kilometer and the price differential, but we'll see how it goes. I still have the PT Cruiser Turbo Convertible to enter and the Infiniti FX-35. They both got the same mileage. It's sad really. I think I'm going to skip out on the Malibu V-6 LT Sedan, since I only drove it 17 miles (unfair analysis) and I can almost guarantee that it'll be back. Anyways, I'll be around tomorrow morning, then back Tuesday. Speed cameras are legal up there, so we'll see how that goes too ;-)

OH NO< MORE SNOW

So, much for the 'spring time weather' here just north of Philadelphia, Pa. Got cold and windy. Snow in the forcast for tommorow morning. Can tell already (at half tank of fuel) that my mileage isn't anywhere near last tank.
I assume it's all cars and not just the Metros that really just do NOT like the cold. I think it may be a 10mpg+ difference for me. I will know in a day or so when I fill up. (Don't have the benefits of OBDII Scangauge capabilities).
What differences in MPG do everyone else experience from approx 60F to 20F-30F???
Is it as drastic as mine???

I just posted in this thread a few days ago that mine went from 60 MPG down to 53.5 MPG, or 11%.

no worries about having to deal with L/KM or any such nonsense. you're going to alberta - canada's "texas" (oil & cowboys). cowboys don't talk in L/100 km! but you will have to translate from imperial MPG to US MPG....

have fun!

It's about time!

I finally broke 40 mpg! I filled up today and got 41.87 mpg. :-) With winter crapoline going away and summer blend coming, it should be going higher yet. :D

The challenge is on! My spot on the top ten of the gaslog is slipping (I'm #10 right now).

I WILL get back around #5...

Bring it on! I just heard that my cylinder head is at the machine shop and should be bach in a couple of weeks. It'a going to come back .040" thinner with some other things done to it as well. It should be installed in the next 3-5 weeks. I'm predicting I'll be somewhere in the top 3. *knocks on head and crosses fingers*

I've never had working A/C in a car, and never wished that it worked, even when it's 100F out my car stays pretty cool, my civic vx came with A/C but it had a leak so I took it out, at least part of it out, all the under hood parts of the A/C are gone, 28 pounds of compresser, evaporator, and tubing, the in-car condensor should be another 5 pounds but invalves taking appart some under dash stuff.
the big advantage I found with removing the A/C is how much more space there is under the hood.
