Doing it right?
Hi all,
New to the site and just wanted to ensure that I am entering the data for each fuel up correctly. On the "add a fuel up" page it asks for the "km since last fuel up" of course entering the figure displayed on the trip-o-meter just before filling up and resetting, however as for the rest of the questions such as "liters, total cost" etc am I correct in inputting the data for the fuel up I've just done? Also.. Have just inputted my first fuel up and have a average MPG of 105.8 when the miles covered was 90.72 how is the average MPG higher than the miles covered. I have trouble understanding how MPG works at the best time of times and aimed to use the site to do the math for me, now I'm even more confused. :Thanx: |
A fuel up is the miles (or km) driven, and the fuel you just used to travel those miles. The reason you're seeing the figure that you do, is because you used 3.8 litres to do 90 miles, there are 4.54 litres in a gallon. Does that help?

I don't really trust the fuel gauge on my bike and often just allow it to go to 150km and then fill up regardless of how much more it could have as it's only cheap anyhow, I suppose to get a accurate reading I might need to go a little longer inbetween stops. Thanks. |
A lot of people overthink fuel ups. It's quite simple. If you're using trip odometer, then simply fill you tank to the top, reset it and off you go. Next time you buy fuel, fill back up and take note of how many miles you've done, and how much fuel you put in. That's your fuel up, fuel used over said distance. Hope that helps.
