High Amperage Alternator / Any Benefit?

Are there any advantages with installing a high amperage alternator?

Doug :)

I have high output alternators in my 81 Buick, 86 Chevy and my 98 GMC. I find that the alternators and batteries tend to last longer, and you can jump start just about anything. A larger alternator does create more drag on the engine so in theory it does lower mileage.

Thanks for your response, Jay!

What was your original reason for installing a high amp alternator?

I upgrade my alternators because there are times I need to jump start something... and I like having a system that is oversized so I don't have problems.
