Marine Propulsion / One ton of cargo moves 1,000NM on 1 gallon

Some cargo ships carry 8,000 containers with a 3-story tall marine diesel engine.

MPG? 1 gallon of diesel fuel moves 1 ton of cargo 1,000 nautical miles.

Beat THAT!

On the opposite side of the spectrum. I remember a report that; A typical fighter jet uses $19,000 worth of fuel per hour.

I suppose they use a gov't issued credit card at the gas station.

And a passenger jet typically uses 4000 gallons of fuel just to take off, about 15 years worth for a average car. Funny how they avoid emission regs and fuel taxes isn't it?
