What about the loss of power steering/brakes when you turn the engine off. Sounds like a totally unsafe operating method not worth the potential grief to the driver and/or the heirs left behind.

ChewChewTrain: When you speak of "engine off coasting", if you mean literally shifting into neutral and turning the engine off, then I'd recommend against that for a number of reasons, regardless of your transmission. Safety being #1.

Flat towable automatic transmissions do exists. Their oil pump is spun at their back end, by the wheels, instead of on the engine side.When EOCing, the key is turned back to ON. With that, electric power steering can be operating. There should be enough vacuum in the booster for 2 hard brakings during the glide if not more. The Sonic, likely because of the turbo, appears to have a brake accumulator, and I have never lost braking on a glide.

If you are going to try EOC, first do it without any other cars on the road. Experiment with the brakes and steering, and practice restarting the car.
