Were you aware there are now 10 pure EV cars available?

Excluding hybrids, there are now 10 cars that run ONLY on electricity:

The issue for BEV adoption for American residents living outside California is that they have less than 10 models to choose from. More choice would mean that it is more likely to find something that a person would be willing to buy and drive every day.

There is the Leaf, Tesla, and i3. Plus a few more for sale nationwide, but those three are the ones likely to be on a dealer's lot for people to see in person and test drive.

Yes alot of the small BEV'S here are small independent European manufacturers, probably making just enough profit to survive as there's a big demand for small, easy to park electric cars in overpopulated European cities. Most of them probably never leave the city, they were never designed to have a long range.

Interesting news to me. Here's why. I predict, an EV startup will manufacture ONLY a generic chassis and EV drive train. That chassis / drive train will be like the VW beetle of many years ago.

Small coach builders will pop up to build custom, creative EV cars on that generic platform.

This business model is already being done in the RV (camper van) industry. The majors, GM, Ford, and such, already sell RV manufactures a generic truck platform upon which RVs are built.

So, Paul, with the new Insight, might you be thinking of selling the diesel?

You also have a 'quadcycle' vehicle class that many of these small cars are designated under. The laxer safety standards means a lower price. In the US, anything with four wheels and can exceed 25mph, needs to comply with all the safety standards for a car. The small EVs we have had that exceeded 25mph were all three wheeled, and were thus classified as motorcycles.

Now why would I do that? I've not put fuel in my Renault since May, even now, 522.5 miles in, I'm only half way through my tank of fuel. Do not underestimate the power/efficiency of a modern diesel! ;)

The remaining days of ICEs are waning. I submit to you Exhibit "A":

EV airplanes? Don't think it will ever be practical? Think, again. It's coming, too!
