AC died
Well, on the drive down to my parent's, the AC in our Sable died. By the fried fuse and noise, the AC clutch went. I am concerned that compressor siezed. Should I be able to hand turn it once I get clutch off normally?

not if the compressor is seized up

Once I thought I had a bad compressor. I was ready to replace it, but my parts guy suggested it may be the clutch bearing. Wasn't a hard job to do, and I had it replaced and running quickly and cheaply.

Chances are big that you will have to replace it.

It was just the pulley assembly.
The coil had burnt out. The rubber dampers on the clutch plate were long gone, and the plate came out in two pieces. Then the bearing innards were no more by the time we got home. New assembly, and everything is good again. I should switch the spacer shim on the plate to get it closer and in spec, but it works. |
Well, if you are sure about the situation, the assembly change will work just fine. I am not that technically aware of the whole thing but it sure sounds like you know what you are doing.
