I bought my first automatic transmission at age 55. It's an 8-speed in an Audi Q5 3.0 TDI. I gotta say, I love it! I'm (casually) eyeing a Porsche 718 convertible. If it happens for me, it'll likely have a sequential shifter. I'm liking the smoothness and comfort.

Luckily by the time I'm old enough, fat enough, have a bad knee enough and don't care about driving enough to consider a car with two pedals, most cars will be electric and not have gearboxes/clutches anyway! ;)

I'm going you one better, Paul. I'm holding out for automatic teleportation. Although, for now, I'll accept a 6-speed teleportation transmission.

In 3 days, we're celebrating Thanksgiving in the USA. Do you guys celebrate, too, and celebrate getting rid of those darn Pilgrims?

Hahahaaa! That's true.

Kind of reinforces the don't coast idea in a couple of spots, especially with the engine off, if you listen between the lines.

It's a question of whether the fluid is flowing. Some automatics can be flat towed. In these, spinning the drive wheels is what drives the tranny fluid pump, not the engine.
