New vehicle initial fuel up calculations
 

Hi there,
Is it possible to edit my new vehicle's initial odometer reading as "1" to (semi) accurately capture my new trucks MPG following its initial free fuel up at the dealership? I know what the MPG numbers are, I just would like to see them displayed on Fuelly more accurately than just "0"
Please see below for my examples. Thanks!

New truck mileages:
0-414 miles (1st tank of gas) MPG=0?
414-791 miles (2nd tank of gas) MPG=20.9
791-1204 miles (3rd tank of gas) MPG=22.9

Hi welcome. When I look at your page, there is no mileage input for your first fuel up. Are you sure you added miles, if not try editing it? Also, make sure it wasn't a partial fuel up.

If you started with a full tank of fuel and did 0 miles to 414 miles and used X amount of fuel, it should calculate that fine. Issues usually arise when people fill thier new car up, and input the cost/volume of that into fuelly with no miles (fuelly calculates the fuel just used over the miles just driven)

No fuel efficiency is calculated for the initial fuelup for a vehicle. There are too many uncertainties on how full the tank is and the miles driven, say a vehicle is purchased with 50 miles on the odometer, a tank that is almost full, then when you fuelup at 300 miles there is a little too much margin for error in the calculation.

Looks like I'm stuck looking at zero mpgs, as opposed to a value that is much closer to what is accurate.

If Fuelly would let us modify all of our fill up criteria, not just some select areas, this could be fixed and shown with relative accuracy.

I fill mine at the first station away from the dealership as they usually stop just short of full. Then I use trip odometer miles from that point so the actual odometer reading is irrelevant. Seems to have worked so far or else I'm too dense to see the problem.

I guess my issue isn't with the truck itself, or my exact MPGs of my first full tank, but rather that Fuelly wont allow me to go in and edit that tank full (start and end miles) to allow a value better than "0" MPGs.
If I wanted to average my first 10 tank fulls of gas, the big zero for tank fill up #1 skews (screws) the entire equation.
Oh well, I guess I'll live :)

Yea I'm not a fan of odometer tracking, too much room for error. Try switching to the trip odometer reading, I find it easier and it really doesn't matter if you skip one or two fuel ups, or even 10.
