Inconsistency re: trip vs. total odometer

I have two vehicles in Fuelly.

When I go to add a fuelup to my truck, it always asks for the TOTAL odometer reading (and displays the previous total odometer reading). I assume it then finds the difference and uses that to calculate MPG.

On my other car, it asks for the trip distance, and already displays the previous trip distance.

What's going on here?

I'd prefer to put in the total odometer reading each time, if its an option. I sometimes forget to reset the trip odometer as I leave the gas station.

Click Edit vehicle on the vehicles profile, you can switch method between the two. You may need to save changes if applicable, at the bottom of the screen.
