Hyundai i30N part two

I got this link in an email today.

Hyundai i30 N vs VW Golf GTI vs Peugeot 308 GTi review | Evo

Great comparison, thanks for posting. I've been chin rubbing about swapping for an i30N, but this has convinced me to stick with the Peugeot. It really is a good car, I agree with everything they've said. It's the most powerful, and the lightest so is not only the quickest but most efficient too. The way it drives, the power, the handling, it just makes you smile each time you fire up the finely tuned feisty little engine.

Golf is a great car, but perhaps a little dull, and very common. Reliability worries me, my bosses both drive VW and have had recent clutch, water pump, EGR (twice) failures at fairly low miles. The thing I love about the I30N is the adjustability with the suspension, steering weight, exhaust note, Rev matching and LSD input. However the interior is a bit boring, and doesn't look sporty enough to me. They've also had fuel pump issues I believe. Peugeot has been rock solid so far, no issues or recalls despite the abuse it occasionally receives.

All three are nice in their own right. Not much to add as U.S. is left out of this conversation except for the Golf. I have no care for it. The current Elantra GT Sport should be worth a test drive but much more likely the Veloster N that's out soon. That seems like a good daily driver. Thanks for posting the link.

Coincidentally I came across this video today. Pretty much same result, Peugeot has a better power/weight ratio.

Another hot hatch comparison between three popular marques. Once again, the 308 gti take first place I'm happy to report!

Peugeot 308 GTi vs VW Golf GTI vs Skoda Octavia vRS | Auto Express

Interesting article until the page locked up for some reason. The Peugeot was quickest and least expensive and good mpg. Wins all around. We get the Golf here but neither of the others.

Autoexpress famously ram their articles with ads and pop up, really slows things down and is really frustrating...

In their favour, they do supply a lot of data, real MPG, real emissions, braking distances. Interestingly, the 50-70 MPH times in 5th and 6th gear are much quicker for the Peugeot, despite the bigger engines in the other two, great for overtaking.

50-70mph in 5th/6th/7th:

Peugeot 4.2/5.2/N/A secs
Golf 5.3/7.0/9.2 secs
Skoda 5.2/6.9/9.1 secs

I've always liked the Golf, mainly because it's one of very few options over here. The Peugeot seems like a major competitor that beats it in many areas. I wish we got car variety now like we did 60 years ago.

My boss just ordered a new Golf GTD, looks just like the GTI but has the 184 BHP diesel instead. Tried to convince him to go for a GTI, or even the GTE plug in, his daily commute would have been able to have been achieved on electric power only. Apparently, the GTE has become so popular, they stopped taking orders. Guess he like many others just likes diesel.
