Gas mileage

Got 230 miles on tank full. Seems awful low for BMW. I get double that on my Jetta. Only thing I can think is my girlfriend was heavy footed this morning. Drove about 85 miles and went thru almost half a tank of gas. Need help and suggestions. Can't afford to fill up every other day.

EPA reckon on 21 - 22 mpg.

A convertible with a large gasoline powered engine and automatic gearbox is never going to be fuel efficient to begin with, I have one myself, but with a manual box. Consider a diesel, or downsizing to something with a smaller engine. Modern engine tech means you can half that engine size and still have upwards of 300 bhp if you still want the performance.

It's a 6 cylinder, don't consider that a big engine.

That's huge to people in the UK.
And it is big for the car segment. Can't think of anybody else uses more than 4 cylinders for it, even in the US.

It's exactly 100% bigger than the smallest engine in the one series. The 3.0 litre isn't the most efficient option. The diesels are good on juice, if available there. Some owners getting over 60 MPG on fuelly.

What year/make/model is it? How big is the tank? Are the tires at full pressure? Any extra stuff in the car/trunk/boot adding weight? Idling much?

The 1 series isn't even available anymore in the US.

Shame. Coincidentally, I was looking at the 140i a couple of nights ago, there are discounts up to £12,000 or $15,600 off of new cars, a great bargain for a new car with 340 bhp.
