Atlanta Auto Show
I'm going today...my friend just bought a new car and the dealer gave him eight VIP tickets.
I'll be sure and pay extra close attention with my camera to the Hybrids and alternative fuel displays and report back. |
Also check out the fit/
Also check out the fit/ versa/ yaris.

Definitely
I drove past the Honda dealer last night, and they had a Fit on the lot! I pulled right in. It was after hours but everything was unlocked on it! I got in and it's not too bad. It has a nice Honda-esque dash and a Matrix/Vibe-like rear. The seat configurations are abundant. Too bad it looks so dorky. Definitely look at the Yaris -- we only had the Sedan back in March, so the Hatch might be on the floor. I'd love to see the Versa -- no luck yet.
edit: also really push alternative energy and FE to the floor people -- sometimes they have "spies" that gather the "word on the street". |
it's just sad how the yaris
it's just sad how the yaris and the fit suck at fuel economy. Especially the Fit. If I were the car manufacturer I would of added another gear in the transmission. Another gear would of helped the fuel economy. I'm also sure those 2 cars don't even turn off their injectors on decelaration.

Neither the Fit not the
Neither the Fit not the Yaris offer EPA fuel efficiency gains over the Civic and Corolla, despite being smaller and equipped with less powerful engines. Why would anybody buy them?
Both manufacturers could have equipped these vehicles with smaller, Japanese-market engines, and handily beat the mileage of the Civic and Corolla. You have to wonder what Honda and Toyota were smoking. Hemp, crank, or crack? |

indeed the only car i have hope in is the honda fit HYBRID ;P small cars rule. |
Thanks DaX
Nice shots DaX - you gotta love the way they stuff the VVT-i Engine in the Yaris. You have to get used to the gauges in the center - what it does is allow you to have more important gauges in front of you like the GPS and the ScanGauge. Getting them out from behind the steering wheel is a good idea because the passenger can see them better and adjusting the wheel tilt is unrestricked. Besides no one is looking at the stinking speedo anyway.
The Yaris is going to get better gas mileage than what they are reporting if the engine is broken in properly but considering the other Honda's with the vtec getting in the low 30's well.... Nice belly pan shots !!! Enjoy the xB because 2006 is the last year. |
are they coming out with
are they coming out with something new for 2007, maybe updated XB?

fit
I would only buy a fit with the diesel personally. It has a very nice torque curve. Bense on Honda-Tech showed me the light to this website

xB
Rumor is a new body for 2008 maybe - extended trunk - not sure - or maybe a BB lower roof line like it was chopped.

Looking at the fit, I think
Looking at the fit, I think I'd get a hybrid version of it. I like how much room is in the back with the seat down.
Now, a hybrid diesel Fit? I'm dreaming. |
diesel fit
Who has made a diesel hybrid? It would be amazing to see that combo.
|
VW makes the Golf ECO.power
VW makes the Golf ECO.power in Europe. Gets a whole 15% better FE than a straight up diesel. VW doesn't like hybrids though, so yakno.
|
ECO.power
Impressive. I always wonder why that many more brands wouldn't do this too. But I think in the end it would add too much cost to the buyer. How does it sell in Europe?
|
I've never seen any sales
I've never seen any sales statistics. I didn't particularly care since VW doesn't like hybrids I figure their hybrids aren't worth paying attention to. It's very new also, I wrote an article involving it but it was pre-consumer launch. I wonder though.

bad rep
for all the bad rep that the current gasoline hybrids get as of now, I dont see any disel hybrid getting a better review. Maybe even worse...I guess you could consider it a double step of sorts. Why would a person want to bite the bullet of switching from gasoline to disel (which is significant)...and then to the hybrid powertrain?
It all depends on fuel prices. Economists would change their mind about the benifit of hybrids at say...$5. |
Well, in europe it's
Well, in europe it's obvious. Over half of all cars in europe are being sold as diesels, so it's not really making the double switch. VW's philosophy is that diesel is the future and not hybridization, but they kinda got forced into making the hybrid through market pressure, so they did, *shrug*

Did anyone else notice just how similar all of these cars look?

Anyway, I talked to drdisco about the Fit and he said it's been honda's game for a while now to wait for the new style, copy it, and then make it better so that it outsells the people who put the money into the originality. |

Then again, I'm sure I'll be doing the same thing with a few sites I'm going ot be putting up soon. |
Funny
It's funny how the new Versa looks nothing like a toned-down version of Nissan's parent company vehicle, Renault's Mégane.
https://pic16.picturetrail.com/VOL698.../144714018.jpg Yes, Nissan is mostly owned by the people who brought us "Le Car". |
Renault is da shit, though,
Renault is da ****, though, homie.

Bense finds great information. It was truly inspiring to see the people at Honda push themselves to the next level.
