Ethanol Free Discovery
 

Hey All,

I haven't posted since 2016 but my recent discovery of ethanol free gas got me excited about tracking my mileage again. Thanks to pure-gas.org I found a station on my way to work that sells 91 octane ethanol free gas for about a 50 cent premium.

I've managed 40.1, 43.3, and 43.3 mpg on the last three tanks. That's better mileage than my Accent has ever gotten over the 11 years and 215,000 miles I've owned it. I'm now going to use ethanol free in all 4 vehicle that I own in hopes that the Casey's will continue to carry it.

You check the cost per mile?
Higher octane alone increased fuel economy in the Sonic, but not enough to justify the price increase.

PS: You likely just filled up with winter blend, so don't be surprised to see a drop next time.

I'm not that concerned with cost per mile. I just like to avoid ethanol for political reasons. My E10 cost per mile is about 6.9 cents and my cost per mile on non ethanol is about 7.0 cents. For one tenth of a cent per mile I'm willing to make a statement.

I'd like to avoid fossil fuels altogether for "political reasons" too, like the fact that 60% of ours is pure tax haha.

Filled yesterday, 44.6 mpg. Best Tank Ever! On a sad note, I think trollbait is right, winter blend is here.

Read Sept 15 was the date by which stations needed to have winter blend in the US.Not bad. 50 cent is less than the Premium octane price difference here. The one ethanol free station I pass on my way to the parents is usually a dollar more.

The station I usually go to has ethanol free 87 octane at $0.30 cents over E10.

Here in Scotland we cannot get Ethanol free petrol. Ethanol is mandatory in our 95 octane (Regular) but not in 97 octane (Premium). However, there are areas of the country where all 97 octane has Ethanol, and Scotland is one of them!
New law from 1st September is that all pumps must be marked E5 for 5% Ethanol or B7 for 7% Biofuel, depending on whether it is petrol or diesel.

I wish I could get ethanol free gas for my small motors but there doesn't seem to be any available in Tucson. They used to run it only in the winter to prevent vapor lock and I would load up at the end of summer to get me through but now they run it year round, guess they figured most of the older cars are gone now.
