Yeah. According to the website, the new one is 1/4 of the volume and the display is 50% bigger. Nice! I'm getting one; soon. :-)

cool. the new box is nice, but here's the best new feature:

ScanGauge II to USB Interface available in August 2006. Allows data logging, field upgrades, data downloads and more
i had asked the builder about that option early this year, and he said "no". didn't want to raise the price of the unit.

about-face on both points: it's now $40 more, at $170.

yeah but if you have USB interface then you have to have a laptop in the car. Why don't you just tell the builder it would be easier to just stick the jumpdrive on the side of it and get the info off like that. Then take the jumpdrive and hook up later to any computer. That would be a cool option too for people that don't have a laptop.

The only reason I found out about the new scangauge is I saw your for sale post.

The jumpdrive doesn't have the capability to run datalogging software, :(

that sucks then.

But if the Jumpdrive recorded raw data then a data logging program should be able to interpret it. Unless there's nothing in the automotive world that does that. I work for an oilfield equipment manufacturer and we build acquisition software for downhole tools. All data is recorded directly to the computer's harddrive and then interpreted by the logging software.

As an afterthought, the ScanGauge may very well be saving all the data anyway. A 32-64 MB memory chip can save a lot of information and be very small. In this case, the information probably could be mass dumped to a computer or a jumpdrive - you'd just need to buy or make a cable with a female end for the jumpdrive.

MetroMPG maybe you should mention this next time you talk to the builder.

mtbiker278 05-16-2006 01:12 PM

The new scan gauge looks a whole lot better. The first version looks like a "giant plastic unrefined brick" as my dad would say. Figures coming from and electrical engineer.

Do you guys think that the price will drop at all? r is it more likely to go up in price since more people are finding out about it and demand will be higher?

Compaq888 05-16-2006 01:46 PM

with the higher demand it

with the higher demand it will go down. He/she has no reason to jack up the price. The demand is not THAT high.

mtbiker278 05-16-2006 01:52 PM

supply and demand

it depends on how many people are demanding, and how many they are producing. If he only makes a certain number of scan gauges, and a whole lot of people are demanding them, then the price would go up typically.

However, if they just choose to make more scan gauges the price would stay the same, and they would just sell a higher quantity. In this case they could reduce the price and still make a decent profit since they will be making more sales over all.

I remember seeing that they had sold out of scan guages and that they weren't going to make any more for 2005. Although that is most likely due to the newer version being phased in.

I'm sure if there was a group buy then the price will go down.

For all that the thing does, I wouldn't worry too much about it being expensive. The guys at my shop have to pay 6500 for a snap-on obd2 code reader, :p

mtbiker278 05-16-2006 03:32 PM

$6500!!!!

holy crap, does it fix the car for you or something?

SVOboy 05-16-2006 03:34 PM

It tells you what the codes

It tells you what the codes are and let's you clear them when you fix them.

ScanGauge

OH GOD I WANT ONE ! ! ! !

My old one fits ok on the dash but is just a little too small to see and it seems to be running all by itself sometimes when I get in the car. Would give me a spare one to check other cars with too and a smaller one will fit on the dash better. The other thought I had was to cut down the old box to fit better and put some dimming in it to worok off the dash lighting control and maybe allow sunlight into the back so it can be viewed better on sunny days.

SVOboy 05-16-2006 03:37 PM

I see a lot more people

I see a lot more people entering the scangauge game as the old model is sold off for cheap, :)

he doesn't do group buys. asked about that months ago.

i expect the price will stay where it is - the first one never budged. however, i wouldn't be surprised if the USB version is more than the regular SG 2.

i bought mine used on ebay and saved only $10. the price diamondlarry is asking is really good. i think he could get more than that if he wanted.

philmcneal 05-16-2006 10:51 PM

SGII

I just ordered the new one a few minutes ago. I figured since I use it so much it is a no brainer to get the newer one - hopefully the USB interface is in it already and the software updates can come later for upgrading and data logging without a problem.

New Scangauge

Hey anyone have the new ScanGauge yet - mine just shipped today after a week and a half wait. Need to use my other one in a friends car to reset an error code.

GasSavers_katman 05-30-2006 06:53 PM

I'm trying to get set up as a dealer and plan on giving a good price to forum members. I just wish they would quit using windows crappy software and switch to some flavor of UNIX like the rest of the modern world!

JanGeo 06-01-2006 09:43 AM

Just got the new ScanGaugeII man is it sweet! Now if I could just remember the darn password to the photo hosting site I could post some photos . . . members of BetterMPG2 can view them in the photos folder.

No go, JanGeo. Try using the IMG tag in square brakets, or the button on the post editor.

NOPE the problem is there are no images uploading when I click upload - it just sits there and does nothing at imagehost . . . will keep trying . . . hummm looks like going to the upload screen from an album doesn't work there only a image upload from the main screen works.

JanGeo 06-01-2006 03:03 PM

Sg II

Looking through the manual in the SGII it looks exactally the same as the SGI except for the color display settings. Nothing about connecting to a computer yet either.

Scan gauge II

I think its about time to enter the scan gauge game. Tell me how it will hook up to a computer, and I am sold. I love the idea of sharing results! (graphs, etc..)

It won't yet. That's coming in about August. I hope they finish the dealer program soon. They said they had to get all the direct orders out first. I told them they are taking sales away from their dealers who promote and support their product. He said "there's not much he can do about it." I told him that my customers are canceling orders with me and ordering direct. He gave me the same answer. Very poor business practices.

tomauto 06-02-2006 06:44 PM

that stinks....How much do you think they will charge for the usb enabled scangauge?

They didn't even have a guess! It's not even in beta testing yet.

Compaq888 06-03-2006 12:49 AM

it looks sweet.

krousdb 06-03-2006 03:33 AM

Looks like a SuperMID, but with a case.

SVOboy 06-03-2006 06:31 AM

I need to make a case for mine and mount it up on the dash, one of today's projects.
