hey

hi all, my names shane, my friend terrh told me about this site and i am very interested. i drive a 2001 Saturn SL 1.9 SOHC Standard Trans. right now i have done nothing to save on gas and i drive fairly agressivily. I have a 50km drive to work every day and that combined with any city driving im getting about 40MPG. Im intested in seeing what other saturn owners have done and what kind of MPG they are getting.

My old truck was a 1991 Dakota 3.9 v6 Auto that got about 18MPG so ive been loving the saturn although ive been reading some of the threads and some ppl here are putting my 40MPG to shame!

here is my car

Yeah! Another saturn owner. First, You have the best saturn for fuel economy and seem to get good gas milage. If you don't have a scan gauge i would recomend getting one.

Another member (diamondlarry) has done some head work to his saturn and has gotten 55mpg or so.

Oh, I am averaging 32 in my 92' sl2 auto.

I wonder how that 1.9 gets such good mileage. I need to see a breakdown on the engine...I guess honda's new r18 does do well also, but I think it's more high-tech than the saturn engine.

Anyone wanna link me to some engine info?

By the way, welcome, saturns are the best of the domestic stuff in my opinion.

The only other fuel efficient domestic I can think of is a ford escort.

Saturn basicaly has 2 engines a sohc and a dohc (s-series). The newer engines just have minor tweaks. The 91, 92 sohc engines didn't have mpfi = bad/ slow (my old car).

Way more information about swaps then the average person needs can be found here:
