New gas pig
 

I was driving my motorcycle this morning when a Cadillac Escalade cut me off at a traffic circle. Normally, I don't get too upset at asswipes who don't see motorcycles, it's a common event. But this buttmunch was running too fast for such a heavy vehicle.

What's more, when I pulled up behind, I read the word "supercharged" under the Escalade logo. It's bad enough that GM makes a 6000 pound vehicle like this, but a supercharged 6 liter motor is wretched excess. I'll bet it gets all of 8 mpg. This is an antisocial vehicle.

People who buy such gas pigs deserve an unleaded enema.

The 2001 SVC Supercharged Escalade you saw produces around 500 hp when the pedal's mashed to the floor. Can't find any specs on it, but a Motor Trend article is here:

The worst part is that a vehicle like this is mostly some person's way of saying, "Look at me!" Obviously you aren't going to load down your caddy with lumber or sheets of Gyprock and I highly doubt that fellow who cut you off has ever had the back sits filled unless he carpools people around...which I doubt.

a well designed forced induction system should not decrease the highway efficiency of the vehicle.

Yes, we have traffic circles here. In Massachusetts they're called "rotaries" to confuse visitors. They help with hypermiling because you never have to stop..........except behind confused visitors.

I find I treat most stop sign intersections like traffic circles anyway (assuming good visibility): slow and yield, if there's another vehicle inside the "circle".

There's one circle on a secondary highway about 70 km from here. The next closest one is in Ottawa, 100 km away. I wish they would use more of them in local planning.

we have circles in south jersey. only we are humble and call them circles. rotary junction just seems too annoying. anyway, there are a lot of undereducated people here and the word 'rotary' has three syllables so its automatically out.

I guess this is why Utah is one giant grid. Straight lines as far as the eye can see.
