Altima aerodynamics
I'll update this thread with pics a little later. i decided to redo the front undertrays. The whole thing with the duct tape wasn't cutting it, just like the back. The back I changed and it has no duct tape there.
The front will have no duct tape and will flow better. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll do this. It already flows good but I want to make sure more air is guided under the car instead of some of it getting stuck in the tire well. |
I took off the front undertrays so I just have the belly in the rear and that's it.

that looks nice and clean. good job.

just have to get rid of the masking tape residue on the bumper.

Now it's time for the front undertrays. I took them off after the accident and I didn't like the fact that they were held on by duct tape. My new design uses no duct tape and is inside the bumper instead of outside and hanging off by tape.
I never modify any parts of my car. I only modify the pieces I'm installing. That way I can put the car back to stock anytime I want. Here is the STOCK https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...4b2806293e.jpg https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...ee061f3d24.jpg Now this is version 1. It is better than stock but is outside the bumper and is held on by duct tape. https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...28e3d4d8dc.jpg https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...13e1c6b973.jpg Now the latest version is version 2. It sits inside the bumper, has no duct tape and flows better than version 1. https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...5b8748ba86.jpg https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...37b15a8b4c.jpg It cost $7.26 in materials to convert from version 1 to version 2. So far I spent about $40-50 on aero mods |
Nice job!

i like version 2 also. looks much cleaner.
how far up does the panel go? do you plan on carrying it back further? also what did you use cloroplast? or flashing? |

I just use metal. It doesn't catch on fire. I have the belly right next to my muffler with no problems at all. I may do a version 4 of the belly pan later on when I get some time. I'm on version 3. Version 1 covered the entire rear end but was held on with duct tape and kept falling off. Version 2 is what you see. Version 3 is what you see and I made some small changes to the front of it where you can't see it. |
That looks very clean. We could all benefit from a step by step guide if you're willing to write it.
I'm kind of fond of metal myself. It's easier to make the mods look like they came on the car straight from the factory. Do you have any future plans for rear wheel skirts and other aero mods? |

What are you planning on buying for your next vehic?
|
Obviously a civic.

Ah come on! Break the mold. Go buy an Echo...something different. :D
Well, do what you can afford. |

Yeah, I know. The Civics get great mileage even without FE geek techniques. Once Echos are down to $5k used then I'll look at getting one...
...wait...what am I saying? I'm supposed to convince you to join the Swift-clone crowd! :p |

You're right. When I was looking for an FE car I just used the EPA estimates so I thought I needed to get a CRX HF, Civic VX to get insane mileage. If I had known that parts were so readily available I would have just bought a Civic CX or the CRX DX (in hindsight, the two-seater wouldn't have worked, so ignorance turned out to be a blessing) I found. I still would have averaged 40 mpg.
But, the Metro still works for me. It just needs a little more TLC. |
