92 VeeDub Jetta, cranks and cranks but ain't sparking.

When he's cranking it does he get any spark from the coil, if you unplug the coil from the distributor cap and hold it close to a ground?
|
SVOboy: Let me chew on this, whilst I go to the Chiropractor. I'll try to give you some idea's of thing's to consider/check.

I'll ask him. He did replace the coil but it didn't change the situation. Right now I think he's picking up another dizzy (it was like 10 bucks shipped on ebay).

SVOboy: I'm not sure what might be causing the inital spark from the coil. I would think it would suggest the coil is Ok. I have encountered a problem on my daughter's 87 Honda, where the ignition pickup electronic's, in the distributor, got extremely flaky and finally died. I ended up getting a used module at the pick a part and then pulling the dissy, replacing the pickup, readjusting the pickup gap and putting it back in. I presume if he got a dizzy on eBay, it is probably used, but it should be fine to just swap in and hopefully that will fix it. Keep us posted.
